Resident Evil Scares Away Weak Competition

Milla Jovovich's 4th installment of the Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil: Afterlife, easily slapped some zombies on this weak September weekend, with over $27 million. Maybe the critically bad 3D helped?

In other news, Toy Story 3 became the highest grossing picture of the year (worldwide) during the week, surpassing Alice In Wonderland's $1.02 billion... yes they are both Disney movies too. Cha-ching!!!

Weekend Estimates:
  1. Resident Evil: Afterlife: $27.7 million ($27.7 million total) Budget: $60 million
  2. Takers: $6.1 million ($48.1 million total) Budget: $32 million
  3. The American: $5.9 million ($26.7 million total) Budget: $20 million
  4. Machete: $4.2 million ($20.8 million total) Budget: $20 million
  5. Going the Distance: $3.8 million ($14 million total) Budget: $32 million

Previous Post----
Only one new movie opens in wide release this weekend at the box office.

Resident Evil: Afterlife
Why it might be a hit: Ooh Milla Jovovich and Ali Larter! In 3D!!!
Why it might tank: How many of these Resident Evil movies have they made already? Do they still have zombies?

My Predictions:
Resident Evil: Afterlife: $16 million
The American: $7 million
Machete: $5 million
Takers: $5 million
The Last Exorcism: $3 million
