Stallone Isn't Yet Expendable at the Box Office

Sylvester Stallone's 80's throwback action flick, The Expendables, easily took the top spot this weekend with just over $35 million. Julia Robert's Eat, Pray, Love, debuted in second with about $23 million. While Michael Cera's comic book adaptation, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World took fifth place with about $10 million.

In other new Toy Story 3 broke the $400 million mark this weekend, making it the first movie this year to past that barrier.

Weekend Estimates:
  1. The Expendables: $35 million ($35 million total) Budget: n/a
  2. Eat Pray Love: $23.7 million ($23.7 million total) Budget: $60 million
  3. The Other Guys: $18 million ($70.5 million total) Budget: $100 million
  4. Inception: $11.4 million ($248.6 million total) Budget: $160 million
  5. Scott Pilgrim vs the World: $10.5 million ($10.5 million total) Budget: $60 million

Previous Post----
A few new movies hit theaters this weekend looking to take one last chomp out of the late Summer box office.

The Expendables
Why it might be a hit: Stallone in a 80s action nostalgia flick.
Why it might tank: Will an 80s throw back action flick work in today's world?

Eat, Pray, Love

Why it might be a hit: Julia Roberts hasn't starred in a movie in a while. Also, a famous book.
Why it might tank: I don't know if the trailer really grabs the audience.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
Why it might be a hit: Has that kitsch web audience.
Why it might tank: Everyone else doesn't get it.

My Predictions:
The Expendables: $30 million
Eat, Pray, Love: $26 million
The Other Guys: $18 million
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: $14 million
Inception: $12 million
