Iron Man 2 Destroys The Competition

Iron Man 2 obliterated the box office competition this weekend with just over $130 million, making it the 5th highest debut in movie history. Although it didn't break any box office records as many predicted (like taking out The Dark Knight), Iron Man 2 is setting off the 2010 Summer movie line up with a bang. It has already grossed more than $327 million worldwide.

Meanwhile, last week's number one movie, A Nightmare On Elm Street, dropped over 72% for a distant second place. Which ultimately means that all of A Nightmare On Elm Street fan's saw it on opening weekend. The bad reviews doesn't help either.

Weekend Estimates:
Iron Man 2: $133.6 million ($133.6 million total)
A Nightmare On Elm Street: $9.2 million ($48.5 million total)
How to Train Your Dragon: $6.8 million ($201.1 million total)
Date Night: $5.3 million ($80.9 million total)
The Back-Up Plan: $4.3 million (29.4 million total)

Previous post----
Well, it's finally here, the sequel to the hugely successful Iron Man. No other movie this weekend has as wide a release.

Iron Man 2
Why it will be a hit: Big budget sequels usually outperform the first.
Why it will tank: I don't think tanking is an option.

My Predictions:
Iron Man 2: $150 million
A Nightmare on Elm Street: $15 million
How to Train Your Dragon: $7 million
Date Night: $5 million
The Back-Up Plan: $3 million
