As a monthly article that has nothing to do with the rest of the website, I came across this heap of info... Well, we all know we waste energy. However, if you already didn't know, some appliances continue to zap energy even when they are turned off. What? How can that be? It's true. Yahoo! Green has posted that this "vampire power" has cost the US $4 billion a year in wasted energy. To add to this, the Department of Energy says that about 75 percent of the electricity used to power home electronics is consumed while the products are turned off. Holy smack! The easiest way to cut down in your home according to the site would be to disconnect or unplug:
Your hand-held vacuum in its charging station
Power drills
Automatic coffee makers
The VCR you haven't used in nearly a decade
The TV that's collecting dust in the guest room
The empty refrigerator in the garage
Or you could just get a powerstrip and shut it all off at once.
