Charlie Wilson's War is a good movie that somehow got lost in the Oscar shuffle last year. By all means, it isn't the greatest movie of the year, but it manages to get off the ground well. This movie has a pretty mighty cast, with the likes of Tom Hanks, Julie Roberts, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Amy Adams. They all do a great job.
Charlie Wilson's War is based off of a true story about a Texas senator in the 80's who somehow gets involved in the biggest American covert operation in history: the crisis between communist Russia and Afghanistan. It is an interesting story, and the way Mike Nichols directs this movie is fun to watch. It plays between a good drama and part comedy, as you come to expect from the man who brought you The Graduate and The Birdcage.
